Halo: Spartan Assault announcement trailer

With E3 in a couple of weeks and the release of the Xbox One later this year, a lot of fans are anticipating the possible announcement of Halo 5. Earlier today though, Microsoft unveiled Halo: Spartan Assault for their Windows 8 platform and Windows 8 mobile devices. The game is a shooter just like any other Halo game, but the interesting part is that it’s from a top-down perspective.

The story itself takes place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4, chronicling the early events of the Spartan Ops program. The game spans 25 missions, and Halo 4 players can also earn emblems, experience and achievements as well. Not only that, but the game will also feature daily and weekly challenges that can unlock items in Halo Waypoint and Halo 4.

After looking at the gameplay, it seems that the game is very much akin to Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Dead Ops game mode. Another cool feature is the ability to use vehicles just like in a regular Halo game. To be honest, it literally looks exactly like a standard Halo game, with the exception of it being a top-down view. I’m actually looking forward to playing this game, not just because I’m a huge Halo fan, but also because it actually looks good.

Halo: Spartan Assault will be released for Windows 8 tablets, phones and PC in July for $6.99. I hope the game sells well so that we may see a port over to XBLA on the 360.
