A new Wolfenstein game is coming…from Bethesda

Bethesda Softworks has announced today that they are working on a new re-imagining of Wolfenstein called Wolfenstein: The New Order. The action-adventure shooter will be out in Q4 2013. With the announcement comes a teaser trailer.

So who will be developing the new game based on the franchise that helped launch the first-person shooter genre? That honor goes MachineGames, a Swedish studio formed by former founding members of Starbreeze Studios (The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay).

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a fictional story set in an alternate universe in the 1960s. Names, characters, organizations, locations and events are either imaginary or depicted in a fictionalized manner. The story and contents of this game are not intended to and should not be construed in any way to condone, glorify or endorse the beliefs, ideologies, events, actions, persons or behavior of the Nazi regime or to trivialize its war crimes, genocide, and other crimes against humanity.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and next-gen consoles. More details to follow on May 8th.
