Black Sails to bring pirates to the small screen

Black Sails

It’s not a trend yet, but it looks like we’re about to get many shows that feature popular warrior groups in the future. It’s already starting with shows like Spartacus and Vikings. Now we can add another group into the mix with Black Sails. Yes, we’re getting a TV series starring pirates. An original series from STARZ and producer Michael Bay, Black Sails will air in 2014 and will contain eight episodes for the first season.

The show is created by showrunner Jon Steinberg (creator Jericho, Human Target) and will star Captain Flint and his men. The timeline takes place twenty years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Toby Stephens (Die Another Day) plays Flint, a smart and feared pirate during his time, who brings on board a young John Silver, being played by Luke Arnold.

Check out the first trailer for Black Sails.

Synopsis: Threatened with extinction on all sides, they [the crew] fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
