Captain America: The Winter Soldier begins production today

Marvel Studios has announced today that Captain America: The Winter Soldier begins principal photography. The film starts production in Los Angeles, with other locations to follow including Washington, D.C. and Cleveland.

With that announcement, we’re treated with a photo of Chris Evans as Captain America with the shield on his back.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Community) and will include returning and new cast including Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Robert Redford as Agent Alexander Pierce, Sebastian Stan as Bucky/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (Real Steel) as Falcon, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty) as Brock Rumlow, UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13, and Maximiliano Hernández (Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor) as Agent Jasper Sitwell..

Synopsis – “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
