EA to add microtransactions to all future games

Is anybody really a fan of microtransactions in video games? No really, I want to know, since EA Games CFO Blake Jorgensen is saying that gamers are enjoying this new business model. Really? I think it’s the fact that we’re not really annoyed by it…yet. We’ll see how it all goes down, since EA has stated that all their future games will be having microtransactions.

“The next and much bigger piece [of the business] is microtransactions within games,” Jorgensen revealed. “We’re building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be, and consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business.”

Sure, microtransactions are great for games that are free to play. As for retail games that require you to buy the game and buy more items, that might not be a smart idea. Then again, video game publishers are already pushing for DLC that includes new characters, weapons, outfits, and more. Before all of this, we were able to unlock new weapons and outfits by earning it. Those days are long gone, and if you want to get an awesome item, all you need is money.

“At the end of the day, we’re very excited about Sony’s platform. We think there’s a huge opportunity. It’s great, as Rajat said, the technical power on the platform is going to allow us to do a substantial amount of things that we’ve never done before. I’ve seen the new Battlefield and it is stunning.”

Sweet, more talk about the PlayStation 4. I can’t wait to see what Microsoft has under its sleeves.
