Creation Entertainment’s Grand Slam – 25th Anniversary of Star Trek The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s pretty amazing how a show that began in 1987 that ran for seven years, including the four motion pictures and several comic books, could have a lasting impact on our society. People will always remember the great Shakespearean English actor Sir Patrick Stewart‘s iconic role as French Captain of the USS Enterprise Jean-Luc Picard; his first mate, playboy William Riker (Jonathan Frakes); his logical companion Data (Brent Spiner); and his trusted confidante, Counselor Troi (Marina Sirtis). Even after being off the air after almost 20 years, this show has left an impression on many people.

Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, and Gates McFadden came together for the Star Trek The Next Generation panel. Adam of Creation Entertainment hosted the panel.

In the beginning of the panel, everyone was introduced and gave a snippet of what they are currently working on.

Stewart will be doing a play with Ian McKellen (location unknown) with two American actors to perform in Los Angeles and will be shooting X-Men Days of Future Past in April. Frakes has been directing shows like Castle, Burn Notice, and NCIS. Spiner was working on his Fresh Hell series (when asked if he would do a Kickstarter, he compared Kickstarter to begging for money). McFadden has her theatre company and are doing productions. Dorn was on an episode of Castle and has been doing voice work. Sirtis has been doing voice work and jokingly complained to Frakes for not putting her in his shows. Burton has been working on his Reading Rainbow app, voice acting and cameos on shows.

It was also Burton’s birthday. Creation Entertainment came out with a birthday cake with everyone (including the audience) singing Happy Birthday to him.

The audience started asking questions ranging from favorite moments to Shakespearean roles. An audience member asked Stewart to place each cast member as a Shakespeare character. Brent Spiner stood up and did his rendition of a Shakespearean piece. It was pretty awesome.

I got up and asked the cast, “If JJ Abrams or anyone did a reboot of TNG, who would you pick to play you (actors and actresses of today)?”

Patrick Stewart: David Beckham

Stewart_BeckhamJonathan Frakes: Wil Wheaton

Frakes_Wheaton Brent Spinner: Zachary Quinto

Marina Sirtis: Mila Kunis

Michael Dorn: Halle Berry

Dorn_Berry LeVar Burton: Don Cheadle or Todd Bridges (“when he gets out of jail”)

Gates McFadden: Jessica Chastain

I could definitely see Jessica Chastain playing Beverly Crusher.

When asked about The Big Bang Theory – which Wil Wheaton, LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner of TNG have all made appearances, Frakes commented on the episode when the cast dressed as TNG characters and stated he wanted to be on the show. He would love to go on that show. Sirtis and Stewart did not understand the concept of the show (“I just don’t get it. It must be a British thing”). That was hilarious.

The cast reminisced about their bloopers, how serious Sir Patrick Stewart was in the beginning, their love for each other and the impact the show had on them. The cast were incredibly relaxed and felt comfortable talking about their iconic roles. They all shared a group hug when Stewart said a touching piece about the cast.

Laughs were shared. Tears were shed. Memories were remembered. This was a great panel to experience the cast, that have known each other for 25 years, sharing fond memories. I’m so glad I got to witness this reunion.

Thank you Creation Entertainment for bringing the crew we loved for so long together.

Oh, and this happened earlier in the day. Thank you Creation Entertainment! Thank you Sir Patrick Stewart!
