Peggy Carter returns in Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

The sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger should be pretty interesting seeing as most of the cast from the first film will not be returning. Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones and Hugo Weaving have all said that they will not be reprising their respective roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, one important cast member who originally said she wouldn’t be returning may be making an appearance after all.

Hayley Atwell, who played Cap’s love interest, Peggy Carter, in the first film denied early into production that she would not be back for the sequel. In a recent interview, Stanley Tucci revealed that even though he would not be back for Winter Soldier, Atwell would.

“Hayley Atwell, who I just had dinner with last night, we’ve become good friends.

I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked.”

Thanks for the spoiling the surprise, Tuch!

I’m really glad that Hayley will be returning. It will give the filmmakers a chance to finally close that chapter in Captain America’s storyline. There was even a deleted scene in The Avengers where Steve Rogers discovers that Peggy is still alive. This should be an interesting reunion to see in the new film. Get your tissues ready.

There is a chance that this has something to do with newcomer and love interest Emily VanCamp. Many who know the Captain America mythos believe that her untitled character could be Carter’s niece, Sharon Carter. This would fall in line with the cannon from the comics.

Everything is still up in the air at this point, but expect to hear more news as we get closer to Con Season. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to hit theaters April 14, 2014.
