Ghost in the Shell: Arise casting, artworks, and more news

Today more information was revealed about Ghost In The Shell: Arise.

Production I.G. will produce four 50 minute OVAs that will run in Japanese theaters before they are released on Blu-ray/DVD. The release dates for the first OVA (border 1: Ghost Pain) is June 22nd in theaters and Blu-ray/DVD on July 26th.

This series will focus on Motoko Kusanagi when she was younger as revealed by series composition and screenwriter Tow Ubukata (Le Chevalier D’Eon, Mardock Scramble).

The Japanese Cast will be as follows:

  • Maaya Sakamoto – Mokoto Kusanagi
  • Kenichirou Matsuda – Batou
  • Tarusuke Shingaki – Togusa
  • Tomoyuki Dan – Ishikawa
  • Takurou Nakakuni – Saito
  • Youji Ueda – Paz
  • Kazuya Nakai – Borma
  • Ikkyuu Juku – Daisuke Aramaki

Author’s note: To which I hope the English cast will be (and this is not confirmed at all):

  • Mary Elizabeth McGlynn – Mokoto Kusanagi
  • Richard Epcar – Batou
  • Crispin Freeman – Togusa
  • Michael McCarty – Ishikawa
  • Dave Wittenberg – Saito
  • Robert Buchholz – Paz
  • Dean Elliott/Dean Wein – Borma
  • William Frederick Knight – Daisuke Aramaki

And the official website for the series has also posted the official character art,  which will be of great benefit to cosplayers. Though I will have to have to cosplay as Saito from Arise as well (I’m a Saito cosplayer).

And here’s the trailer.

The text in the trailer is as follows (translated by Anime News Network):

A.D. 2027
Her name is Motoko Kusanagi
Attached to the Army’s 501st Secret Unit
Heavily Cyborg
Hope for the future

What proves who I am?

It all begins here

In addition there will be a manga titled: Ghost in the Shell Arise Sleepless Eye (Nemuranai Me no Otoko) starting in the April issue of Monthly Young Magazine, which will be on sale March 13th. Takumi Ōyama will be the artist for the series, and Jun’ichi Fujisaku will write its story. Fujisaku had previously worked on the screenplay for both seasons of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex as well as the screenplays for Blood+, Otogi Zoshi, Appleseed XIII, and Real Drive.

And finally there will be a free-to-play online game (looks to be a multiplayer FPS from the reports) based in the GiTS universe in 2014. The game will let players choose three different cyborg types, and purchase modifications to enhance their skills and abilities.
