Disney confirms Star Wars stand-alone movies

Disney has confirmed they will be making a series of spin-off films based on different existing Star Wars characters. Although not yet confirmed which characters, people have been speculating Yoda would be one to have a film.

Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, said both Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and Simon Kinberg “are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga… We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time starting in 2015 but (there) are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too.”

These movies will not be part of the new trilogy that will be directed by JJ Abrams. Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to release sometime in 2015 – hopefully.
