Jennifer Lee to co-direct Disney’s ‘Frozen’

Disney has announced that Jennifer Lee is co-directing with Chris Buck on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 53rd full-length animated feature, Frozen. The upcoming Disney film is scheduled to be released on November 27, 2013. Along with contributing to the screenplay, Lee has also worked on Wreck-It Ralph as a screenplay writer (check out our review and podcast review).

Kristen Bell (Heroes, Assassin’s Creed series) and Idina Menzel (RENT, Wicked) will be lending their voices to the comedy-adventure that follows Anna, along with the mountain man Kristoff, on a journey to save a kingdom from an icy spell. The problem is that the spell was cast by Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen.

Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Tangled) won’t be composing the music for Frozen. That honor goes to Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (In Transit). With Lopez on board, the movie’s soundtrack should definitely be interesting. Check out the song Lopez helped composed called “The Internet is for Porn” for the R-rated puppet musical, Avenue Q.

So far I have been enjoying the recent Disney Animation Studios projects like Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph.

As for other things Jennifer Lee has been working on, her screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights is being produced by Troika Pictures.

Chris Buck has worked on previous Disney animated films like The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under and Pocahontas. He has co-directed Tarzan and Surf’s Up.
