Flight of the Navigator remake in the works?!

If there’s one thing you should know about me it is that I absolutely love 80s Sci-Fi films. It is what I consider the golden age of Nerd films. Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Short Circuit, Batteries Not IncludedStar Wars, etc. It was a great time to be a nerd and it was a great time for film. Now that being a nerd is cool, hip and super profitable, Hollywood is gearing up many remakes to cash in on the nerd bonanza. Recently, word has come out that Safety Not Guaranteed’s team of Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly are attached to remake Flight of the Navigator.

The original Flight of the Navigator starred Joey Cramer, Veronica Cartwright, Sarah Jessica Parker and Paul Reubens. The film was the story of a young boy who disappears in a mysterious spacecraft only to reappear 8 years later, not looking day older than when he went missing.

Tervorrow and Connolly are scheduled to rewrite the original remake script that was penned by Arrested Development’s Brad Copeland. It seems that a Flight of the Navigator remake has been in the works since early 2009. Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly may not be household names, but the two have been winning numerous awards and are making huge waves in the independent scene. Derek Connolly alone is set to write an upcoming untitled project for Pixar.

I think it is safe to say that the future for the Flight of the Navigator does not look that bleak, but we will have to wait and see as more info comes out about the film.
