I-MEGO Throne Headphones Review

I recently downloaded the highly acclaimed mixtape No Idols by Domo Genesis and the Alchemist. What better time to test out a new pair of headphones from I-MEGO. The nice people over at I-MEGO sent me a pair of their Throne headphones. It is their new line of over-the-ear headphones that come in Gold, Poison, Cambo X1 and Cambo X2. This review is for Gold headphones. Now, let’s take these bad boys out for a test run.

DESIGN

The Throne Gold comes in a surprisingly sleek design for over-the-ear headphones. When I first saw an image of the headphones, I assumed they were much larger than they actually were. The slimmer design works out great because normal over-the-ear headphones are bulky and can take up entirely too much space (I remember having some old school Marshall headphones in high school. There was literally only enough room in my backpack for it and one folder). The slim design also makes the Throne headphones extremely light.

The headphone cups are lined with an extremely soft and plush material. This is easily one of the best feeling headphones I’ve ever worn. The outside of the headphone cups are encased in a gold painted wire-frame. The casing design somewhat resembles that of a 1950s microphone. The headband is easy to adjust and is wrapped in leather. The headband also has I-MEGO embroidered on the top of it. Nice.

The only downside I can see to the design is that the medium cup size of the headphones would not be ideal for anyone with big ears.

SOUND

Now comes the most important part, because you could have the ugliest pair of headphones in the world but as long as they sound great, we’re golden (just don’t expect me to wear them outside). I’m happy to report that the I-MEGO Throne sounds amazing actually. The 40mm diameter drivers give a 20 – 20,000 Hz frequency response to delivering great bass. The lows don’t drown out the mids and highs. They’re great for listening to Rock, Rap or Heavy Metal.

For its $139.99 price tag, the I-MEGO Throne Gold sound a lot better than most of its competition in the same price range. It also works well with smartphones and i-devices. The Throne has a built-in mic with an all-in-one button that will pause your music or pick up an incoming call.

FINAL VERDICT

The I-MEGO Throne Gold is definitely a swanky pair of headphones. It has premium sound and a super stylish look that is well worth the cost. If you’re looking for some lightweight bass rockers that won’t break the bank, I highly recommend the I-MEGO Throne Gold.
