Vote for the final World Tendency event in Demon’s Souls

It’s true. After running for two years, Atlus has confirmed that the servers for Demon’s Souls will finally be getting shut down at the end of May. And to make sure they go out with a bang, they want their fans to take part in as much of the festivities (and brutal murders) as possible.

While the single player experience will remain untouched, the online portion of the game is scheduled to be shut down for good. With this in mind, Atlus has tasked the fans with voting on the final World Tendency events for the final days of online play. These Tendencies will change twice during the month, once on May 1, and once more on May 16. Fans can send in their vote on which World Tendency takes place by responding via the Atlus Faithful mailing list. In addition to these events, Atlus is encouraging all players to sign in on May 31, the final day for the online services, to celebrate the game one last time. And by “celebrate” they probably mean invading as many people as possible and killing each other with violence.

“It has been a tremendous honor and privilege for all of our staff at ATLUS to have been involved with so innovative and groundbreaking an interactive entertainment experience,” Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ATLUS, said in a press release. “We poured our heart and soul into every facet of our involvement with Demon’s Souls, particularly the title’s memorable Deluxe Edition, which served as the only avenue through which to purchase the game’s official strategy guide. ”

“It was also of the utmost importance for us to sustain the game’s online experience as long as possible, even beyond the point at which sales could help to offset the expense.  Regrettably, the online servers cannot be sustained forever and now the end draws near.  Thank you to the unparalleled passion and support of theDemon’s Souls community throughout these last two and a half years.  The online adventure may end soon, but the memory of it-just like that of every boss strategy, every level floor plan, and hidden secret-lives on in the gamers for whom the game was so special.  Long live Boletaria!”

So if you’re looking to get a few last hurrahs before the servers are shut down, now is a better time than any. This all doesn’t mean the adventure has to end, however. The game’s sequel, Dark Souls is just getting warmed up, and with the PC version coming in a couple months, fans who have yet to hop in on the excitement have a reason to continue their journey through new lands, and face new threats.
