Bioware announces Mass Effect 3 DLC: Extended Cut, and it’s FREE!

So if you haven’t heard yet, because you’ve either been under a space rock, there was a lot of fan backlash about the Mass Effect 3 ending or “supposed ending.” Since then, Bioware has promised to make good with fans on an explanation of things in a future DLC. Well that time is coming, as EA has announced that they will be releasing a free (yes, FREE) DLC called “Extended Cut.” The official press release states:

“Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes.”

I know that many did not like the ending, but I was one of the few that was fine with it. It’s going to be interesting to see what Bioware will come up with for the DLC. Will it be an explanation to the existing ending and closure to other existing characters, or will it be an entirely new piece?

Judging from the announcement, it is obvious that there is no playable content on the Extended Cut, but rather cinematics. I’m excited to see what they have in store for us, but nervous at the same time. My hope is that they didn’t change the ending and have just provided an expanded explanation on the events that took place. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Extended Cut DLC will be releasing this summer and will be available for free until April 14th, 2014 (no, the date is not a typo).
