3DS breaks 5 million units, Nintendo still printing money

If there was any doubt that Nintendo is back to dominating the handheld market, they’re probably going to be dashed at this point. The Big N has announced that the 3DS has managed to surpass five million units sold in Japan after just 52 weeks of being on the market.

This has resulted in the handheld setting a new record for the company in being the handheld to reach the number in the fastest time frame. Previous record holders were the original DS hitting its 5 million at 56 weeks, and the GBA at 58 weeks.

Nintendo has also provided a handy comparison chart, seen below, just to further rub the success of the 3DS in the faces of haters everywhere. Why? Because they can.
