New Resident Evil 6 details revealed including location and timeline, plus screenshots galore!

After the release of the Resident Evil 6 teaser trailer last month, Capcom has unleashed upon us new screenshots and new details on the game.

We already know that the game will be taking place in China, but Capcom has confirmed that the characters will embark on a journey in the “fictitious coastal town called Lanshiang.”

There were some confusion about what year Resident Evil 6 took place in, but the actual year is 2013.

Here are the character profiles:

Leon S. Kennedy: After the zombie infestation in Raccoon City, Leon became a U.S. government agent thanks to Adam Benford, who later becomes the President of the U.S. Leon has made it his life’s goal to stopping bioterrorism.

Helena Harper: She’s also a government agent that was suppose to be part of the Secret Service for the President of the United States. She said that she was responsible for the “incident” in the announcement trailer.

Chris Redfield: As a former S.T.A.R.S member, he fights against bioterrorism and is in charge of the BSAA. Something major happened to Chris six months before Resident Evil 6, but he’s still able to join his BSAA comrades in China to uncover a major bioterrorist attack.

There’s a mysterious third hero in the game. All Capcom has revealed is that he’s a mercenary fighting against B.O.W.s in Eastern Europe. It’s been said that he’s the one to “save the world.”

Ingrid Hunnigan: She’s part of Field Operations Support (FOS) and has helped Leon for a while. Both Ingrid and Leon share a mutual trust.

Adam Benford: He’s the President of the United States and the man responsible for hiring Leon S. Kennedy as a U.S. government agent.

The zombies are finally back in the Resident Evil franchise. The main differences are that they can now run, jump, and use weapons. It looks like the developers are taking cues from the Dawn of the Dead reboot and Romero’s Land of the Dead.

J’avo: Here’s a new creature in the RE6 universe. It made its first appearance six months prior to the events of the game. Hmm, I wonder if this creature had anything to do with Chris Redfield’s personal trauma. These guys are pretty creepy, as they can understand speech, work in groups, use weapons, and very aggressive. They can self-regenerate and have their limbs form into different shapes if taken a lot of damage.

The coolest feature in Resident Evil 6 would have to be the ability to move and shoot at the same time. With every single third person game already having that feature, it’s nice to see one of the classic third-person shooters join the bandwagon. In addition to that, players can roll in any direction, slide, cover, and use an enhanced melee attack.

Resident Evil 6 is expected to be released in November 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
