‘The Last of Us’ – PS3 Exclusive, Naughty Dog Developed, Enslaved Designer Involved

The Last of Us, a game recently teased with its own site and touted as a major Sony exclusive, has been unveiled this past weekend at the VGAs as a PS3 game developed by the mighty Naughty Dog. Though the trailer has a character who appears to be Ellen Page (Inception, Juno), it is not her. Ashley Johnson will be playing the female character, “Ellie”, and Troy Baker will be the male lead, “Joel”. Troy Baker may not be a familiar name, but he’s lent his voice to a dizzying amount of video games, including Catherine, Tales of Vesperia, Ninja Gaiden 3 (as Ryu), Batman: Arkham City (Two-Face), and many more.

As for the actual trailer, well, there appear to be mutant-like creatures who’ve taken over and destroyed the civilization we’re all comfortable with. The mutant that attacks the pair appears to have been human, and he has a strange growth coming out of his head. Really, he looks like nightmare broccoli, and I think that’s something we can all get behind the obliteration of. Even though you can technically say this feels like a zombie game, and maybe some of you are tired of that, The Last of Us seems to be focused on the relationship of the two main characters. Also, this is Naughty Dog we’re talking about, and anything they’re involved in, I’ll be lining up to play. Here are some official responses from Naughty Dog about the game:

The Last of Us has “…survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague.”

“Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

The game will be directed by Bruce Stanley and the director of Uncharted 2, Neil Druckmann. The Lead Designer for the game, Enslaved, will also be helping out on the project.
