‘Batman: Arkham City’ Sales Over 4.6 Million Units Worldwide

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have announced today that Batman: Arkham City has shipped over 4.6 million units worldwide since it launched on October 18, 2011, on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. The first week sales is two times more than the first week sales for Batman: Arkham Asylum, and it’s the highest rated game so far of 2011 on Metacritic, scoring 96 on PS3 and 95 on Xbox 360 (all positives). Check out our Batman: Arkham City review and see what we think about the best Batman game yet.

I’m glad to see these numbers and sales for a non-FPS game. Let’s face it, the FPS market is always on the top of the video game food chain, and it’s nice to see other genres come to mix things up a bit.

Batman: Arkham City is one of the best action adventure games, proven by the tremendous reviews, and it further establishes the Batman brand as a marquee franchise for our growing business,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “Rocksteady Studios went above and beyond in delivering an incredible game and the support of the entire team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment drove the excellent campaign a game like this deserves.”

And here’s what Sefton Hill, Rocksteady Studios Game Director had to say about player reactions to Batman: Arkham City.

“The true test for any game is what the players think and we have been thrilled by their reaction to Batman: Arkham City. The team at Rocksteady put every ounce of effort into making the best Batman experience we possibly could, so we are overwhelmed by the incredible feedback from the community.”
