EA Says Battlefield Will Bring Activision’s Call of Duty Down

Here we have two grown men bickering over who’s got the better game. To be more precise, it’s just one man doing all the barking, and his name is Jeff Brown, EA’s spokesperson. He’s been attacking Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, belittling him with comments like, “Welcome to the big leagues Eric.”

Hirshberg said that Brown’s comments are harmful to the video game industry, especially when Brown is hoping that Activision “rots from the core.”

Well, Brown replies by saying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will go down soon.

“I know you’re new in the job, but someone should have told you this is a competitive industry. You’ve got every reason to be nervous. Last year Activision had a 90 share in the shooter category. This year, Battlefield 3 is going to take you down to 60 or 70. At that rate, you’ll be out of the category in 2-3 years. If you don’t believe me, go to the store and try to buy a copy of Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk.”

The same can be said to EA’s lineup by asking gamers to buy Skate or Rock Band. I don’t think Activision has to worry, since the COD franchise has been making them filthy rich. It’ll be interesting though when both games arrive. We’ll see if MW3 will slip down to 60 or 70%. For me personally I’m just waiting on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
