3DS and PS Vita Will Lose to Tablet Market

Crytek, the team behind Crysis, said that the handheld market (3DS, PS Vita) is losing to to the tablet market (iPad). The developing studio mentions that it has no immediate interest in making games for the PlayStation Vita. Poor poor Vita.

“While it’s a nice achievement from Sony in the first step it’s not something we would take into consideration in the short term,” said Crytek managing director Avni Yerli.

This is not sounding too good for the PS Vita, as Heavy Iron Studios yesterday was pretty much dissing the upcoming handheld platform.

“If people aren’t willing to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS why would they pay $299 for Vita? People don’t want to carry more than one thing in their pocket, that’s why Android and iPhone have done so well, they are the devices of choice, they offers multiple functions outside of gaming,” said Lyle Hall of Heavy Iron Studios.

It looks like many aren’t having confidence in the new handheld platform. I really do believe that Sony needs to make the prices lower if they want to stay alive. Are people willing to shell out that much for a dedicated handheld system when we have convenient portable systems already with the Android and iPhone? For me, I never really was into the whole handheld gaming platforms (except for when Game Gear came out) because I can always play the awesome game with the awesome graphics on my Xbox 360 or PS3.

The PS Vita will be available late 2011 in Japan, and early 2012 in North America and Europe.
