Activision Announces Call of Duty XP Convention This Fall in Los Angeles

This will be your biggest WTF moment of the day. You read it right! This fall there will be a Call of Duty convention in Los Angeles on September 2nd and 3rd. Just announced today, Activision will be holding a two-day event celebrating their most successful franchise. What the hell would a Call of Duty convention be like?

“This will be to Call of Duty fans what running through Willy Wonka’s factory would be like for kids. When we decided to do this we went all in. There will be some pretty remarkable spectacle at this event.” – Activision Publishing President Eric Hirshberg

Attendees will get hands-on with Modern Warfare 3, three months before its release. There will also be life-size replicas of Modern Warfare 2 maps, The Pit and Scrapyard, where fans will be able to battle it out with paintballs. There will also be a life-size functioning replica of Burger Town, where attendees can grab a bite to eat at the in-game accurate cost of $6. That is pretty cheap for con-food.

Tickets will be $150 for the two-day event and ALL Proceeds go directly to Activision’s Call of Duty Endowment; a non-profit organization that helps find employment for U.S. military veterans.

Activision hasn’t yet revealed the venue for the event. Judging from the picture above, I got a feeling it will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center or the LA Coliseum.

The event will also be the global unveiling of Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer, and fans will be able to get their hands on the new Spec Ops mode. Also, check out our E3 preview of MW3 Spec Ops Survival Mode.

What would a Call of Duty event be without a tournament? There will be a 32-team bracket tournament for $1 Million. Gamers will be able to qualify for the tournament at regional promotions and competitions. There will also be on-site qualifying rounds as well.

While Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games will be on-site promoting MW3, Activision ensures that Treyarch won’t be left out, and that they will have a big role in the convention as well.

Tickets go on sale July 19th and are expected to sell out quickly because there is only 7,000 of them.
