Developer Arc System Works Trademarks Guilty Gear Name

Arc System Works has been releasing the BlazBlue series for the last 3 years now, but before BB existed Arc Systems had been working on another popular fighting title called Guilty Gear.

Guilty Gear had 4 main titles, Guilty Gear, Guilty Gear X, Guilty Gear Isuka and Guilty Gear XX. It included many side titles and expansions ala Street Fighter, and was released on multiple systems as well as being a hardcore arcade title.

BlazeBlue is the spiritual successor for Guilty Gear and outside of the graphics, characters and a few minor changes, Blazblue is more of an HD version of Guilty Gear. Daisuke Ishiwatari had a lot of fun creating this anime style fighting game which brought forth a whole new style of fighting and combos not yet seen at its time. Unfortunately, Sega Sammy owned the rights to the title, not Arc System Works.

Daisuke Ishiwatari has expressed interest before in continuing the series and moving it over to the next generation platforms. In a nice twist, Arc Systems has just trademarked Guilty Gear, meaning they may have just bought their title back from Sega Sammy.

Now enjoy one of the best intros:
