First Dead Island Gameplay – 11 Minutes of Zombie-Smashin’ Goodness

We finally get our first look at the actual gameplay of Dead Island in this new 11-minute video. I was a little worried as to whether or not this game could live up to the expectations of the trailer that was first released. It garnered a lot of attention, but now that the gameplay is out, I think it stands up fairly well. The palm trees sway in the wind, the weather can change and add darker atmosphere, and it seems like it’ll be really exciting to explore the island not knowing what will happen next. Also, unlocking the true potential of trucks by running over zombies at full speed, looks like a lot of fun.

I think that one of the most important aspects of the game is the fact that your character has a very limited stamina bar. This means that you’ll need to carefully and skillfully choose how to attack the many kinds of zombies you’ll run into on the island; this should add to the intensity of the combat. I really like that you can repair and upgrade weapons. The requirement of repairing weapons will keep gamers in survival mode, while the idea that you can upgrade weapons, say nails put into a bat, will have them excited to find new ways to mash some zombies. There are guns in the game, but they too will be limited. After all, it wouldn’t be as fun if you could just pull out a chain gun at any time and easily mow them down. I can’t wait to be mobbed by the undead, using every tactic and skill in my arsenal to survive.

Thanks, Gametrailers!
