PSN is Coming Back Online!

It’s taken a lot longer than I’ve wanted it to, but finally the PSN will now be slowly coming back online state by state. Sony has put out a statement on their blog regarding the issue:

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

You can check back often on Sony’s blog to see if your state will be coming online soon.

America will be the first to get PSN, followed by Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

Here’s what will first be restored to PlayStation Network and Qriocity users:

  • The ability to reset passwords for Qriocity and PSN.
  • Restoration of online game-play for PSP and PS3.
  • Playback rental video content, if within rental period, of PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
  • Playstation Home.
  • Qriocity for current subscribers.
  • All things related to your friends list like trophy comaprison and chat.
  • Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and will be back as well.

Here are Sony’s instructions regarding changing your password, which is what you should be doing as soon as your are able:

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

Hackers, whoever you are, you’ve made your point. Please leave PSN alone. I need to play some Uncharted 2. Thanks.
