There’s a ‘Core’ AAA Shooter Coming to Kinect from Microsoft?

Many so-called “core gamers” would probably laugh at the probability that there would be a AAA Shooter on Kinect aiming its sights at them. Well, it seems that Microsoft Games Studios Vancouver is doing just that. Their official site offers up some insight into their direction:

MGS Vancouver is building a world-class development team in Vancouver, BC, Canada, dedicated to making games for “core” gamers. Our mission is to push the limits of proven and unexplored game development and show the world what’s possible on Microsoft’s game consoles. And yes, we’re also an awesome place to work!

A NeoGaf member also found out that Shawn Woods, the art director at MGS Vancouver, had some other interesting information in his resume:

Original team member in a new studio with a start-up mentality, hired a team of artists to create social microtransaction games. Over the course of the year, our studio strategy has changed and now focuses on developing a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect. Member of the MGS Creative Councel to promote job training to artists across all Microsoft Game Studios.

Perhaps I’m looking too much into it, but he says “using Kinect”, which may indicate that a controller is used in addition to Kinect. Many gamers (myself included) wonder how Kinect would deal with the simple act of walking in a Kinect-based shooter. Will we be walking in place, or as previously mentioned, might we have an Xbox 360 controller in one hand? Being as large as the 360 controller is, I kind of doubt they would opt for that.

I suppose we’ll just have to see if Microsoft is ready to announce this project at this year’s E3.
