Gamers in Real Life Scholarship

For the fourth year in a row Sony Online Entertainment will be offering the Gamers in Real Life (or G.I.R.L.) scholarship to prospective students in the United States.  Gamers who are interested in working in the gaming industry will have a chance at a $10,000 scholarship and a 10 week paid internship with one of SOE’s development studios.  SOE states that they are committed to encouraging students toward career paths in the creative and applied arts, with the ultimate goal of developing video games that are more interesting for women to play.

“The most recent industry studies show that although a large percentage of the game playing population is female, they make up only about one in every 10 game developers,” said SOE VP of global sales and marketing Laura Naviaux.  “For the fourth year in a row, SOE is committed to encouraging women to pursue an exciting and rewarding career of developing fun and innovative games for everyone.”
