Calling All Nerds – EPIC GAMER PRODUCTIONS Call of Duty: Black Ops Tournament!

We are very pleased to announce that we will be at this weekends Epic Gamer Productions Call of Duty: Black Ops tournament photographing the event, and competing in it! The event will be held at Southern California’s Frank & Son Collectible Show location, in the City of Industry. With an expected gathering of up to two-hundred participants, and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd prize winners, the tournament should be quite the challenge for any player to compete in; only the elitist players will be victorious!

We had the chance to talk with Brian Compton, the event creator, to give us a lttle peek into his competitive tournament-frenzy mind! Check out the event details, and gallery of previous events after the jump.

Nerd Reactor: What inspired you to create tournament events?

Brian Compton: It actually started a few years back with Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Game Cube. A little trash talking amongst friends turned into something serious. We organized a tournament to see who the best was and not only did we get a huge turnout everyone had a really great time. It basically snowballed from there.

NR: What is your future plan with the business?

BC: Well I would love to see it get really big but I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself, and just take it one tournament at time. I really just want to deliver a great experience for every person who competes at our events.

NR: Who are some your sponsors?

BC: This month for our Black Ops tournament on the 12th we were really fortunate to have Mad Catz Inc donate some high end prizes that we’re very excited to give away. For our GoldenEye 007 tournament later this month we already have Busted Tees kicking in some really awesome stuff and I’m still working on getting more.

NR: How does it feel knowing that Nerds are more popular than ever now!?

BC: It feels great! Our company wouldn’t exist if that wasn’t the case and I wouldn’t be able to do what I love. It’s great to have such a large community of people with the same interests as myself.

NR: Where do you get all the systems, televisions, etc.?

BC: I actually purchased everything at different locations. I really just shopped around until I found the best deals.

NR: How do you choose locations?

BC: I just think about it from a gamers point of view. Where would I want to go?  I’ve wanted to hold a tournament at the Frank and Son Collectible Show for a long time and I finally got the opportunity.

NR: What’s your favorite game, system (past, present, or future)

BC: That’s a tough question. I love RPG.’s so some of my best gaming memories are Final Fantasy 7 and Xenogears on the Playstation as well as the Zelda series on Nintendo. Back in the day I played a lot of fighters on the Neo Geo and Street Fighter 2. I love the Guilty Gear series and I’m really looking forward to Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

NR: Did you ever think growing up that this would be what you’d be doing as a grown up – being a kid!? Do you see yourself as Tom Hanks in BIG?

BC: No way. I never imagined that this would be my job. I’ve always felt like I never wanted to grow up and maybe I don’t have to. I definitely feel blessed to be able to do this for a living. So yes, I feel like Tom Hangs in BIG except I can’t play a giant keyboard with my feet.

NR: What movies are you excited for: Batman3, Thor, Green Lantern, Battle for LA , etc.?

BC: I really enjoyed the last 2 Batman movies so I’m looking forward to the 3rd. I also love alien movies so Battle for L.A. looks pretty cool.

NR: What is the craziest thing you’ve witnessed at one of your events? At another sponsored event?

BC: Well my favorites are the amazing come-from-behind victories. There’s nothing more epic then when a competitor goes into ninja focus mode and gets that clutch “falcon pawnch” or that last second “no-scope” for the win. To me that’s what it’s really all about.

NR: How do you rate yourself as being Nerd?

BC: I would rate myself pretty high on the Nerd scale. I mean I did quit a great paying job as a bartender in a huge sports bar to do this full time, and I don’t regret it for a second. I’m definitely proud to be a Nerd.

Brian Compton – Nerd Sports bar bartender turned mega ultra Nerd entrepreneur- Two thumbs way up!
