More ThunderCats News Including Snarf and Giving It That Movie Feel

It’s been some big news for fans of ThunderCats this week, from the leaked image to the release of the official artwork. Some of you hate it, and some of you are excited for another ThunderCats to come for a new generation. So far we’ve seen Lion-O, Panthro, Cheetara, and Tygra, but who else will be joining the cast?

Ethan Spaulding talked to Splash Page and gave them the skinny. He talked about ThunderCats going back to its roots in Japan, therefore giving it the anime look.

So “ThunderCats” does have a footprint in Japanese animation. We’re kind of going back and honoring that in the new series. I was always a huge fan of the original show and I love the Japanese animation and what they can do, so we’re really going back to the roots.

He then talks about why they updated the wardrobe for the cast.

You can see that in the old lineup, and they looked like they were more of a superhero team. With our back story, we couldn’t go in that direction.

Another reason for updating the wardrobe is because of the story and feel. They wanted to have more of a movie feel with a darker tone, so the colors had to be muted to fit the universe they were in.

Tygra apparently wasn’t cool enough for the design team, so they updated him with a cool backstory.

The consensus was that he was the boring guy of the old show, so we wanted to make him more interesting and gave him another dimension. But don’t worry — he still has the whip.

He confirmed that Snarf, WilyKit and WilyKat are back and will have an updated look as well.

ThunderCats is expected to premiere later this year on Cartoon Network.
