Mortal Kombat Live-Action Digital Series Begins Shooting February

We reported earlier that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth was going to be turned into a live-action web series. Now it’s really official since Warner Premiere has announced it.

Director Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame, “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth”) will start shooting in Vancouver this February. To this day, his fan film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth has gained over 10 million views online. What a perfect time to release a digital series, since the Mortak Kombat game will be coming out on April 19, 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The series will take viewers deep into the history of warriors like Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang.

The digital series will be available this spring through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. The series has been reported to contain 10 episodes starring Michael Jai White as “Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs.

More details on casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
