Update: Sales for Kinect and PlayStation Move Are Pretty Close

Update: It seems that the US press release said that the Move sold over 4.1 million, Joystiq confirmed that Sony has actually shipped over 4.1 units to retailers.

Sony and Microsoft have revealed sales numbers for their respective motion peripherals. Sony has announced that they have sold over 4.1 million PS Move units for the PlayStation 3 worldwide as of November 2010. Sony has reached this amount in two months since its release in September.

Not to be outdone, Microsoft has also announced sales numbers for the Kinect. In just 26 days since its launch, the Kinect has sold over 2.5 million units.

“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 26 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this Christmas.”

Sony did not include sales number for Black Friday, which is definitely a big factor to the Kinect’s high sales number. So far it seems that the motion peripheral market isn’t one-sided. Well, Nintendo’s motion peripheral still beats Microsoft and Sony since the Wii has a lot more installed user base.
