Redbox to Start Renting Games…That’s Crazy!

Yes it’s crazy; crazy like a fox! Redbox, the movie rental service, have announced that they will be entering the game rental market. They have been running test markets since 2009 in Wilmington, NC and Reno, NV, which then expanded Orlando, Fl and Austin, TX earlier this year. So far, all of those tests have been positive and Redbox is working on an expansion of the test markets. Consumers in the Midwest, East and West coasts will begin to see video game rental options in their neighborhood Redbox kiosk. Rentals will cost $2 a day and have titles available for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii and Nintendo DS. Since Blockbuster has practically gone under, the main competitor that Redbox will face is the Netflix-esque Gamefly service. Currently the video game library is quite small, but I’m sure that more will be added soon. You can check it out here.
