Psychotic Director David O. Russell Confirmed to Write & Direct Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

It seems that Sony and David Russell has indeed come to a conclusion with negotiations for directing the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune movie, based on the game of the same name. After we had posted about the failed negotiations and David’s tirades that include choking out director Christopher Nolan, cussing out actresses, and trying to choke George Clooney, Sony has decided that he’s the best man for the job.

The action-adventure franchise is very popular that was exclusive for the PlayStation 3, and has earned many “Game of the Year” awards for the sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The movie will follow treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who’s a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, a famous explorer. The Uncharted game pretty much embarrassed Tomb Raider in its own genre, and David Russell, even though he’s a nightmare to work with on set, will probably do a better job of bringing back the magic of treasure hunting compared to this generation’s National Treasure and Indiana Jones: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. (I still love you Mr. Spielberg. Just stop hanging out with Mr. Lucas.)

Here’s what Sony president Matt Tolmach had to say about David:

“David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation.”
