Mark Millar’s Nemesis is Being Turned Into a Big Budget Movie
The comic book creator behind KICK-ASS and Wanted has announced that there will be a film adaptation of his most recent work, Nemesis. Nemesis is a story about a super villain that goes on a never-ending destructive rampage, looking to avenge his father’s injustice. When asked about how he originally got the idea for the comic, Millar responded, “What if Batman was the Joker?” The comic is far more darker than his previous big hit, KICK-ASS. The story takes place in many high-profile locations that the film will need a big budget to truly do the comic justice.
“They reckon the budget on this thing will probably be around $450 million mark. It’s a very expensive film, it’s got a lot of big set pieces. So the nice thing is, it means we can hopefully afford who we want to work with.”
Though the film is just being announced, Mark Millar reports that the film already has a director, Top Gun and Man on Fire director Tony Scott.
“Tony Scott has to be at the top of the list, he’s a Hollywood legend. Every single person in the country probably has at least one of his movies on DVD. So the idea of Tony Scott doing a superhero movie in itself would be exciting, the idea of doing mine is just crazy. It’s something I’m very, very exciting about.”
This will be the fifth movie adaptation for the comic book writer. Millar notes that the film will be less like Wanted and more like KICK-ASS, as for staying true to the source.
“I think it should be pretty much identical. I mean, Tony and I talked at length about it. He says one of the directions, though I love it, ‘I’d like the guy not to be in a white superhero costume,’ and I thought, ‘Well, that’s the whole point of it,’ so we ended up not agreeing to do that. [But] I think he’s going to stay as faithful as he can. It’s a big studio picture, [so] we won’t have the same kind of control we had with Kick-Ass, which was a much more intimate affair, but I feel very confident in Tony’s hands.
Looks like this one is really gearing to be one hell of a movie for comic book fans. I anxiously await to hear more about the movie.
So who you think should play Nemesis?
