“R2-D2, It Is You!” The DROID R2-D2

Being a Star Wars fan, I like seeing when companies that don’t normally do themed products come out with special edition out of the norm stuff. A good case in point is the Star Wars shoe and apparel line from Adidas. That has to be one of the coolest things I’ve seen a company do that doesn’t normally appeal to a particular fanbase. Verizon Wireless has just recently announced the R2-D2 limited edition DROID 2 phone. Looking at the phone, you can see the direct resemblance to R2 with the color scheme and etchings. It also comes with a custom “carbonite” box, a Star Wars media dock and a wired headset. As for the device itself, it comes preloaded with Star Wars notification sounds and ringtones, four live wallpapers, an R2-D2 clock widget, “The Best of R2-D2” video with the Cantina music and an exclusive binoculars app. According to a spokesperson, the binoculars app will show a 360-degree view of the Hoth battle. They also stated that there is even an Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back app that not only comes with it, but will also be available on the Android Market for $2.99. The phone hits Verizon stores on September 30 and sells for $250 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new 2 year contract.
