Visually Stimulating Images from BUNRAKU

A film I just recently came across is writer/director Guy Moshe’s BUNRAKU. Premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, BUNRAKU looks to be a visually intriguing combination of East and West, fantasy and reality, live-action and animation.  What also caught my attention was the diverse cast, which includes Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Kevin McKidd, Demi Moore, Ron Perlman, and Japanese pop star Gackt.  Just to give you an idea of what the movie is about, here is the official synopsis from the TIFF website:

In a world with no guns, a mysterious drifter (Josh Hartnett), a young samurai and a bartender (Woody Harrelson) plot revenge against a ruthless leader (Ron Perlman) and his army of thugs, headed by nine diverse and deadly assassins. This visually stunning film is filled with uniquely choreographed action sequences of a new style that melds east with west and old school with new.

I don’t know about you, but a movie with samurai and assassins is right up my alley.  Whether or not this film is gonna be an awesome blend of styles or a horrible mash up, only time will tell.  As for me, I am hoping it’s a diamond in the rough and can’t wait to see some footage.   For right now, take a look at these hi-res images and see what you think.

The name Bunraku comes from a traditional form of Japanese puppet theater, and you can see the name fits well with the origami styled background.
