Daniel Craig & Rooney Mara Starring in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Remake

Yes, the remake is inevitable, so complain away on how Hollywood is unoriginal. Sony Pictures has announced that Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Rooney Mara (The Social Network) will be the leads in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network). The remake is based on the Swedish movie of the same name, which is based on the Swedish novels, The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. The second flick will be The Girl Who Played with Fire and the final third will be The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

The story is about a journalist teaming up with a young female hacker trying to figure out a 40-year old mystery of the disappearance of a corporate executive’s daughter. Daniel Craig will play the journalist and Rooney Mara will play the hacker, or is it the other way around? With David Fincher directing this, it will be his third crime investigation movie, the first two being Seven and Zodiac. Judging from the title of the third film, it won’t be a spoiler when I say that Nazis are involved. Is Daniel Craig in the Nazi killing business?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set for worldwide release December 21, 2011.
