Your Playstation Move Buyer’s Guide

Now that E3 2010 is over and the Playstation Move has been announced, you’re probably wondering what you need to get to start playing the Playstation Move.

But wait, what is the Playstation Move?

Good question. It’s a peripheral for the Playstation 3 that allows 1-to-1 accurate movements. Using the Eyetoy and the Move Motion Controller, it can tell if you’re moving it up, down, left, right, forward, or back. It’s kind of like the Wii, but its spatial awareness is better.

Ok, so what if I don’t have anything?

You’re best bet is to get the Playstation 3 Sports Champions Move Bundle. It’s going to cost you $399.99. It includes the Playstation 3 Slim with a Dualshock 3 controller, a Playstation Move motion controller, a Playstation Eye camera, the Sports Champions game, and a Playstation Move game demo disc.

Ok, well I already have a PS3, what do I need then?

If you already have a PS3, then all you need to get is the Playstation Move Bundle. This sucker is going to cost you just $99. It includes the Playstation Move motion controller, a Playstation Eye camera, the Sports Champions game, and a Playstation Move game demo disc.

Well, I already bought the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Eye camera. What do I need then?

If that’s the case, then all you need is the Playstation Move motion controller. It will only cost you $49.99.

Wait a minute, there’s an extra peripheral that is missing from all these “bundles”.

You’re referring to the Playstation Move navigation controller. To purchase this add-on, it is going to cost you $29.99. This is an optional controller that allows you to use analog and d-pad controls with 2 face buttons. It pretty much replicates the control scheme of the left side of the Dualshock 3 controller. Games like Heavy Rain will definitely benefit from using this controller, but it’s not necessary, since your existing Dualshock 3 controller will work too.

One game I should mention to check out for the Playstation Move is Sorcery. It’s a third-person action-adventure game that brings added depth into using the controller. You play as a wizard’s apprentice, and your motion controller acts like a wand. You’ll truly feel like a dorky wizard. Look for that game in Spring of 2011. Check out the live demo from the Sony Press Conference during E3 2010 below.

There you have it. The Playstation Move will be available in stores on September 19, 2010.
