Deus Ex Novel to Coincide with Human Revolution

Del Ray Books has announced that Deus Ex will come in book form next year, to coincide with the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the highly anticipated third game of the Deus Ex series, in 2011. Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect will be written by James Swallow, who has worked on novels for Doctor Who, Stargate, and Star Trek and on games like Killzone 2.

The Icarus Effect takes place in the futuristic world of Deus Ex, where technology brings advancement to society, while also creating chaos and conspiracy. The heroes brought on are new characters named Anna Kelso, a Secret Service agent, and Ben Saxon, a special-ops soldier. Their journey will have them reveal the truth behind a secret powerful society that will alter the course of history.

“We’re really pleased to be able to announce this new DEUS EX novel with Del Rey books,” said Andre Vu, Marketing Game Manager, Deus Ex. “The novel is set in the DEUS EX universe and there will be characters and story elements in it, that will overlap with our next videogame DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, which we hope fans will be very excited about.”

Sounds exciting. Here’s hoping that The Icarus Effect will retain the scope, mystery, and cyber-punk feel of the Deus Ex universe.

Del Rey Books will publish Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect, which will be available in North America and Europe in 2011 along with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
