Batman Beyond: The Complete Series is now available on Blu-ray

Batman Beyond Beauty Shot

Batman Beyond continued the universe of Batman: The Animated Series, and it followed Terry McGinnis as the new Batman under the guidance of Bruce Wayne. Some Batman fans were cautious before the premiere of the show due to a new character taking the mantle of Batman. After it aired in 1999, it gained a cult following and received critical acclaim. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition package containing all 52 episodes.

This is the first time the series has become available on Blu-ray, and it’s available on Digital ($49.99) and in a Blu-ray box set ($99.99). There’s a lot of content with 18 hours across four Blu-ray discs. In addition, there are two bonus discs including the remastered Blu-ray version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and new featurettes: Nostalgic Tomorrow – A Batman Gathering and Knight Immortal.

The box set also includes an exclusive chrome Batman Beyond Funko Pop and four lenticular art cards. The Blu-ray box set is limited to 50,000, so get it while it’s still available.

With 52 total episodes, 41 have been fully-remastered form either their original 35mm film source or OCND (original camera negative digital) format. The latter is a digital scan of the original negative. The episodes have enhanced lines and resolution, and removal of dust and dirt. The cell dirt is intact to maintain the original picture. The aspect ratio has been changed with approximately a 3% loss of screen image due to the remastering process. The rest of the 11 episodes had time-worn irreparable damage and had to be “Smart Rezzed” from the standard definition Digibeta video. These episodes are “Eyewitness,” “Final
Cut,” “The Last Resort,” “Armory,” “Sneak Peek,” “The Eggbaby,” “Zeta,” “Plague,” “April
Moon,” “Sentries of the Lost Cosmos” and “Speak No Evil.”

Batman Beyond is produced by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett, and Glen Murakami and executive produced by Jean MacCurdy with Shaun McLaughlin as associate producer. Shirley Walker (Batman: The Animated Series) composed the music for the series.

The cast includes Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne, Will Friedle (Boy Meets World) as Terry McGinnis, Cree Sumner (Drawn Together) as Max Tan, and Lauren Tom (Futurama) as Dana Tan. Guest voice actors include Paul Winfield, Stockard Channing, William H. Macy, Teri Garr, Michael McKean, John Ritter, Wayne Brady, Seth Green, Tim Curry, David Warner, Patton Oswalt, Stacy Keach, Amanda Donohoe and Jill Eikenberry, Ice-T, George Takei, Michael Ansara, Mark Hamill, Adrienne Barbeau, Kate Jackson, Angie Harmon, Linda Hamilton, Clancy Brown, Gary Cole, Ed Begley Jr., Wendie Malick, Cary Elwes, Olivia Hussey, Kurtwood Smith, Robert Patrick, Ian Ziering, CCH Pounder, Frank Welker, Johnny Galecki, Pauley Perrette, Michael Rosenbaum and Diedrich Bader.
