The Swan Princess Blu-ray

This year marks the 25th anniversary for The Swan Princess, the most successful independent animated feature film franchise. To mark the occasion, The Swan Princess 25th Anniversary Blu-ray is now available from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It’s also available in 4K HDR on digital. Nerd Reactor was invited to attend the pink carpet anniversary event at the W Hollywood, with the 4K restored version of the film premiering at the Arclight Hollywood. Liz Callaway, the singing voice of Odette, made an appearance and performed in front of a crowded theater.

The Swan Princess was released in theaters in 1994 and features lovable characters and sweet songs like “Far Longer Than Forever.” The animation still holds up today with movements from the human characters looking fluid and lifelike. The Blu-ray includes new bonus material, “A Look Back, Tease Ahead,” and more archival features.

Synopsis: The Swan Princess, a magical, musical animated adventure based on the classic fairy tale “Swan Lake,” is the heartwarming story of the beautiful princess Odette, who is transformed into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s spell. Held captive at an enchanted lake, she befriends Jean-Bob the frog, Speed the turtle and Puffin the bird. Despite their struggle to keep the princess safe, these good-natured creatures can do nothing about the sorcerer’s spell, which can only be broken by a vow of everlasting love.

The film is directed by Richard Rich and written by Brian Nissen from a story by Rich and Nissen. The cast includes Jack Palance, John Cleese, Steven Wright, Sandy Duncan, and Michelle Nicastro.

The pink carpet was to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month. Nicastro, the voice of Odette, passed away due to breast and brain cancer.
