D23 Expo: ‘Black Panther 2’ and release date officially announced

Black Panther 2 - T'Challa

Hail to the king, baby. Although there’s been speculation as to the absence of Black Panther 2 in Marvel’s Phase Four slate, everyone knew it was inevitably coming. Wait no more. During the D23 Studio presentation, Kevin Feige brought on stage co-writer and director Ryan Coogler to announce the film.

Feige held in his hand the treatment Black Panther 2. Feige was quick to point out that Black Panther 2 is simply a working title. So he asked Coogler if they should reveal the title of the film. Unfortunately, Coogler said no. He wanted to see if he should tell them the first act of the film, but Coogler once again said no. Lastly, Feige wanted to see if he should tell us who the villain is, but he once again said no. Coogler did announce that the film would be coming out on May 6, 2022.

No further details on the film were given. As a result, we don’t know if Black Panther 2 will be a part of the expanding Phase Four or a part of Phase Five. So it may not be much, but at least we finally have a release date for the sequel.
