Time travel in the Colombian-inspired RPG, Cris Tales

One of the games to surprise us during E3 2019 was Modus Games’ Cris Tales. Developed by Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK, the RPG features a unique spin on time travel where you can see the past, present and/or future at the same time on the screen. Cris Tales features beautiful and colorful 2D animated world with a lot of Columbian influences.

We were able to check out the demo presentation of Cris Tales during E3 2019 with Dream Uncorperated’s CEO Carlos Rocha Silva. He talks about how the game will be heavily influenced by JRPGs and Colombia, where his studio is located. There’s even a Colombian animal, a golden frog, and he’s super friendly. In reality, it is a poisonous amphibian that lives in the Colombian rainforest.

The game follows Crisbell and her friends on a journey to stop an evil Empress and a cataclysm. She has the ability to see the past and future of her world, which allows for unique gameplay where you can see multiple timelines simultaneously. In the demo, we were able to see the game split into past, present, and future. Things you do in the present will affect the future, and changing the past will affect the present. There will also be hard choices. For example, changing the timeline can either help or ruin characters. The game will have puzzles, and you’ll need to use your smarts to solve them through time.

Since the game is inspired by JRPGs, there will be turn-based combat. Time is on your side, and if you were to use an element in the present, it may change in the future as something dangerous against future enemies. The traditional turn-based combat and the ability to alter the timeline are definitely fun and interesting, and we can’t wait to mess with time when Cris Tales comes out.

The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2020. You can check out the demo now on https://store.steampowered.com/app/1079830/Cris_Tales/.
