Fantasy Strike is a new fighting game from David Sirlin, the lead designer for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and the game is now available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, and Linux. It’s definitely a new challenger in the fighting game genre, and it aims to cater to both new and hardcore fighting game fans. A cinematic trailer was released during the game’s release, and it showcases the different fighters.

The controls for Fantasy Strike is a bit different too. Games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter have your character jumping by pressing up on the stick or d-pad. With Fantasy Stike, there’s actually a jump button, so it’s reminiscent of a side-scrolling platformer. The controls are simpler, especially with how to evade certain moves; for example, some throwing moves can be evaded by just standing still. Since this is still a fighting game, it’s all about switching up your moves to trick your opponent, and the one who is able to do that will have the advantage.

Fantasy Strike features a tutorial on your basics, and this was enough to get the hang of things with enough practice. There’s also the traditional arcade mode where you select your fighter and go up against a select number of fighters. Upon finishing them, you’ll earn an ending complete with illustrations.

For newcomers, there are in-depth video tutorials for each of the 10 characters. These will teach players to learn about frame advantage via visual effects, making it easier to read the opponent. They will learn what moves are good or bad for a given situation.

Other modes include Ranked Matches, Survival Modes, Daily Challenges, and Boss Rush.

So does the game actually makes things easier for casual players? Not necessarily. You’ll really need to study up on the basic gameplay and practice. If someone is very knowledgable in the game, your odds are against you. So study up and enter the world of Fantasy Strike.
