Zombieland: Double Tap trailer brings back Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone

Zombies have been prominent in popular culture with shows like The Walking Dead and movies like World War Z. When Zombieland came out, the zombie flick became a hit with fans with its humor and self-awareness. There were also popular catchphrases from the film like “Nut up or shut up.” Well, the sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, is almost here, and a new trailer has surfaced from Sony Pictures.

The original cast is back with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone. Ruben Fleischer (Venom) is returning to helm the project, and the original writers, Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool), have also returned. Joining the writers are Dave Callaham (Jean-Claude Van Johnson), who is working on Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“We find our heroes from the last movie ten years later, as they’re just moving into the White House,” Fleischer tells EW. “Tallahassee has a saying, ‘Go big, or go home.’ They kind of took it to heart and went for kind of the biggest and best home they could find.”

There is usually one type of zombies in a show or film, but Zombieland: Double Tap is taking a page out of some zombie video games out there by introducing new zombies.

“In the 10 years since the first movie, zombies have evolved into different types of zombies,” says Fleischer. “The one that’s causing the big threat are the T-800 zombies, that are stronger, faster, harder to kill.”

The trailer will feature newcomers to the series like Rosario Dawson as Nevada, a zombie killer; and Zoey Deutsch as Madison, who survived the zombie apocalypse by living inside a Pinkberry freezer. Other characters will resemble some of the cast like Luke Wilson and Tom Middleditch.

“We kind of called them ‘doppelgängers,’” Fleischer said. “Actually, I’m going to leave to the audience who goes to the movie. I don’t want to spoil it too much. I’ll just say it’s perhaps one of my favorite parts of the whole film. You’re gonna have to go see the movie to see what’s going on.”

Synopsis: In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters on October 18, 2019.
