SDCC 2019: Taskmaster battles Natasha in first Black Widow footage

The greatest thing that Marvel Studios does is going all out when it comes to announcing their films. It becomes an unforgettable event. Their Hall H panel at SDCC did not either. To close out their panel, Marvel Studios finally was able to announce the standalone Black Widow movie to the Comic-Con crowd.

Director Cate Shortland, Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz took the stage. “In this film, we get to understand her past and put the pieces of herself together and come out a whole person,” Shortland said.

Of course, this doesn’t exactly follow the events of Endgame. Instead, Harbour told us that Black Widow will take place in between Civil War and Avengers: Endgame. After some time on stage, those in attendance got to see early footage of the film.

The Black Widow clip starts with a montage of Widow in the MCU films. This includes her conversation with Tony Stark from Civil War. After the Marvel Studios logo plays, we see the words “Budapest” big and bold across the screen—Civil War style. Natasha is walking into a building and when she reaches a door, she pulls out her pistol. “I know you’re out there,” a voice says.

Natasha busts through the door and begins to search inside. Once she reaches the kitchen, she sees Yelena pointing a gun at her. Natasha says “Are we going to talk like grown-ups?”

“Is that what we are, ” Yelena replies. An incredibly intense fight between the two ensues. It’s a Jason Bourne-style of brutality where it’s in your face and these are hits that you feel. Fortunately, there are no shaky cameras, though.

Not to mention, they try to kill each other by using any object within reach. They even use a curtain to try and choke each other. Afterward, Natasha grabs two shot glasses and pours vodka in it. “Good to see you, sis,” Natasha says. “You just had to come to Budapest.”

We get a montage of action scenes involving a motorcycle chase scene on the streets of Budapest. There are also scenes where Natasha is running through a mountain range.

Lastly, the clip ends with we get a car crash. Natasha stumbles out of the flaming wreckage onto the bridge. A hooded man in a mask walks towards her. She fires, but he pulls a shield and blocks the bullets. It’s Taskmaster.

They begin fighting and Taskmaster is able to go toe-to-toe with her. However, things change when Natasha tries to do the hurricanrana on him only for him to counter it and doing that exact same move on her. They both fall, land, and look at each other in the exact same way.
