Netflix is building up its anime and adult animation lineup with series like Castlevania, Aggretsuko, The Seven Deadly Sins and Ultraman. The streaming service has announced this week that it’s going to have another animated series set in the world of Norse mythology. It is bringing together Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Man of Steel, 300) and Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox) on board as executive producers.

Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva are creating a new animated series set in the world of Norse mythology with Oliva also serving showrunner and director. The two have had a partnership that included live-action films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 300: Rise of an Empire, and Man of Steel.

Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will join Snyder as producers with Stone Quarry Animation working on the animation. Their animation studio is a new partnership with Oliva.

“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.

Zack Snyder is currently directing and writing the upcoming Army of the Dead film for Netflix. Oliva is currently working on Trese, the Netflix original animated series set in Manila, Philippines.

Norse mythology has been really popular thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor and the latest God of War game, and this will surely add to that. Another popular mythology is Greek mythology, especially with shows like Hercules, movies like Wonder Woman, and games like God of War. Netflix is bringing its own take on Greek mythology with Gods & Heroes, with animation from one of the studios behind Netflix’s Castlevania.

As for other upcoming anime and animated series, Netflix is currently working on Magic: The Gathering, Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, and Transformers: War for Cybertron.
