The Witcher fans are upset with Yennefer casting in new photos

Netflix went all out today with promoting The Witcher, the upcoming live-action series based on the book and inspired by the video game of the same name. The streaming service revealed that the show is going to have an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 in Hall H along with The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Friday, July 19th. In addition, it has released a bunch of new photos including Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. As it turns out, fans aren’t happy with the casting choice for Yennefer.

Even though showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich said that the series is going to be based on the book, there are still inspirations from the video game. Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia is a perfect example of that.

Here’s the frontal shot of Geralt.

Here’s his design from the video game.

As for the books, they’re pretty much just text, but the Russian edition features artwork from Denis Gordeev. Here’s an illustration from the Time of Contempt book featuring Geralt.

Fans have been happy about the look of Henry Cavill as Geralt.

Then there’s Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the casting of Yennefer. The showrunner did say that the series is based on the book, but the character’s description doesn’t match that of the live-action series.

Others would’ve happier with Kate Beckinsale as Yennefer.

The Witcher will be making an appearance during the Netflix panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 in Hall H. It will run from 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm. Here’s the panel description:

“Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Be among the first to get the exclusive scoop on the highly anticipated new Netflix original series centering around famed monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. Be introduced to the world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.”

The Witcher is scheduled to premiere in 2019 on Netflix. Are you looking forward to the series? Let us know!
