Play as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hulk in Marvel’s Avengers

Square Enix Crystal Dynamics Marvel's Avengers

Square Enix released the Marvel’s Avengers trailer during E3 2019. There are a few scenes that teased the gameplay, but those attending E3 had the chance to check out a 30-minute hands-off gameplay demo. Nerd Reactor was invited to see the game in action at the Square Enix booth, and the gameplay is looking promising. (Although the character design will turn off some fans out there.) Players will get to play as different Avengers including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and Hulk.

The demo was an extended version of the trailer that features Avengers Day, aka A-Day. The team and their fans are celebrating in San Francisco until an explosion erupts at the Golden Gate Bridge. Once the superheroes get to the bridge, players will get to control them. Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk, and he can jump and attack enemies using his brute strength. Thor and Iron Man can fly and attack enemies from above. Black Widow uses her martial arts skills to dispatch the enemies. Taskmaster, a Marvel villain who can copy moves, makes an appearance as he goes up against Black Widow. (The character also made an appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games.)

Marvel’s Spider-Man had players swinging around in the open Manhattan world, and the Batman Arkham series had players exploring an open world of Gotham. Marvel’s Avengers looks to be more linear compared to the previous comic book games. When playing as the characters, you were stuck helping out the people on the Golden Gate Bridge. The good news is that the might of the Avengers are shown as they show off their unique powers. I will be very surprised if the developers were to reveal an open world in upcoming gameplay videos.

With Crystal Dynamic (Tomb Raider reboot) working on the game with help from Eidos Montreal (Shadow of the Tomb Raider), I have no doubt that we’ll have a fun game on our hands. Not only is the action adventure game going to feature single-player, but it will also have co-operative gameplay.

Synopsis: Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel’s Avengers will be available on May 15, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC.
