Captain Marvel reaches $900 million worldwide over the weekend

Captain Marvel has been hit with controversy, especially when Brie Larson made comments about there being too many white men at press events. There was a backlash that resulted in negative comments on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that didn’t stop the film from having a big opening as well as a successful month. With the weekend over, the film has earned another estimated $35 million in the U.S., with the worldwide total being $910 million. It’s definitely looking like it’ll cross the $1 billion mark.

Captain Marvel is now the seventh highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe worldwide. Soon, it will become the seventh MCU film to cross the $1 billion milestone. It’s currently behind movies like Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel’s The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther, Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War.

Fans have definitely been looking forward to the film since it’s the first female-led MCU film as well as a bridge between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Synopsis: The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and written by Boden, Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer from a story by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. It stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronan, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Algenis Perez Soto as Att-Lass, Rune Temte as Bron-Char, McKenna Grace as young Carol Danvers, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Jude Law as the Starforce Commander.

Captain Marvel is now in theaters.
