Marvel Studios rumored to do Wolverine series sans Hugh Jackman for Disney Plus

Wolverine series hugh jackman

The Disney and Fox deal is almost closing, and that means Marvel Studios will soon access to X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Now we have a report that Disney and Marvel Studios are planning to work on a Wolverine series reboot, meaning we won’t see Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Logan.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has mentioned before that it only makes sense to have Marvel under one roof.

“I think it only makes sense,” Iger tells THR. “I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels. […] Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting [making Deadpool an Avenger] is one of them. But who knows?”

A source close to We Got This Covered has reported that Marvel is looking to recast Logan along with having him be the star of his own TV show on Disney Plus. The company is also tossing around ideas for other shows relating to the X-Men universe.

Nothing has been confirmed yet for the Wolverine series, but it’s not surprising to hear that Disney and Marvel want to reboot the X-Men characters, whether they are going to appear on its streaming service or in theaters.

Hugh Jackman has said that he’s not going to play Wolverine in the future, with Logan being the last film. He compared it to going to a party.

“When I saw Deadpool, I was like, wow that’s cool,” Jackman tells MTV. “It’s just a matter of time. It’s a bit like you’re at the greatest party you’ve ever been at, you’ve been dancing for an hour and a half, and then you’re just like ‘It’s time, ok. If I stay any longer, it’s gonna get ugly.’ It’s like, it’s time.”

The merger of Disney and Fox is expected to finish in March, and until then, we can speculate on what Marvel Studios will have in store for the X-Men and The Fantastic Four including the Wolverine series.

Disney Plus is working on bringing shows involving characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Loki, Scarlet Witch and Vision. The streaming service will also have shows in the Star Wars universe with Jon Favreau working on The Mandalorian series starring Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos).
